Yes, I don't understand why all my fellow Calvinists believe in Capitalism. For it to work on a theoretical level you have to have a sort of Pelagian worldview. It will only work if people are good and think of others. If not, it becomes an abomination. Just look at 19th century industry. It's sad that it was non-christians who challenged that system.

I'm not advocating socialism....I'm convinced no system will really work in a fallen world. If it did...well, we might forget we're pilgrims.

As Christians we can live under any system. It doesn't really matter. Work with what we have...do what we can. If we have freedom, praise God...if not, praise God.

But don't champion something just because it's the American way. American does not equal Christian.

A teacher I had once in college noted that while we reject pelagianism in spirituality, we seem to embrace it in the Rush Limbaugh style economics where human effort of the individual is the primary ingredient of economic "salvation".

At any rate, the Old Testament economics with the year of Jubilee and redistribution of land every 70 years was pretty much distributionism with free market elements in the intervening time. As to how an industrial society can reasonably put that into practice where the means of production and what is produced is constantly evolving is a good question.
